If You Think My Hands Are Full

While searching for big brother/sister shirts I came across this design at Cafe Press

I couldn't find a good image to load, but there are 31 other designs available at Cafe Press. The logo reads:

If you think my hands are full, you should see my heart.

I don't know how many times when I'm out with my Outlaws someone says, "You sure have your hands full."

Is this meant to be a compliment? It's like when people say to you, "Are you feeling alright? You look . . ."

The other day I just had the Mustangs & a salesman at the mall said, "You sure have your hands full today."

I smiled & said (as I waddled by), "Yeah, they are full every day & this is just half of them."

I ordered the bag, tank top & t-shirt. I really want the hat too, but Big Daddy laughs at my big ears in hats. lol

The List - Big Brother/Sister Shirts

April is right around the corner - which means I will officially be a month a way from having a baby. I have so much to do before May & my calendar is jam packed for April. I'm trying to get all my baby essentials together for the baby, get the house prepared for a new addition, spend some quality time with the outlaws, get close to finishing school with the boys, make doc appointments for the kids (things I don't want to do with a nursing newborn), & the list just goes on & on.

One thing I have done with all my pregnancies is buy the kids "Big Brother"/"Big Sister" T-shirts. Since the baby will be here during baseball season & the boys' favorite color is red, I picked these out. The boys shirts are from Baby HeirLooms.Com & I found the big sister shirt at Cafe Press. I looked for a similar baby brother onsie, but couldn't find one, so I got this outfit from Gymboree.

INDUCING

I have been induced with all my kids (except Talon) at 37 weeks. It would be a little exciting to actually go into labor this time; HOWEVER, it is a scary thought b/c I live about an hour & a half from the hospital & I go quick!! -- When I had Tucker I told the nurse I was ready & she didn't believe me, "Oh hun, I just checked you & you were only a 7 - it is going to be a while . . ." A few minutes later, out of pure-d instinct I raised my leg & she quickly realized I knew what I was talking about. She checked me & his head was coming out. The table wasn't set up & my doc wasn't in the room. The nurses were telling me, "don't push yet" & I was crying, "I'm not - he is just coming out!!" My doc came running in & barely caught his head. Labor was a couple hours, delivery about 5 minutes! So, it is very possible if I go into labor I won't make it to the hospital. *I just want to add that I love the idea of having a baby at home - **WITH a midwife!! This isn't an option for me though b/c the complications I have during my pregnancy. And after Big Daddy compared delivering a baby to pulling a calf - I'm afraid, VERY afraid! Besides, with being induced - I look great in all my pictures! I go so quick I don't even have to touch up my lipstick. LOL Also, I will hit the 37 week mark the same week as our homeschool convention - I REALLY LOVE to go to this & would love to have the baby any day AFTER the convention. I am also a little attached to the idea of having a Mother's Day baby. I have VIP with my doc (we've been together since I was 17), so I'm trying to talk him into inducing me on Mother's Day. This year Mother's Day is May 10. May 10 is my best friends birthday & my mom's "Angel Day" (before my little brother, Critter, was born my mom lost a baby on Mother's Day, May 10). May 10is a special day & I would LOVE to have my little man on such a special day.

We'll see . . .

"THE PLAN"

I haven't blogged much on this pregnancy other than whinning about morning sickness (Horrible!! -- GO MONAVIE!!!), but I have 5 weeks until my doc takes my cerclage out (it is killing me at this point!) & won't stop my labor. OR 6 weeks until I add one more Outlaw to the roll-call (INDUCING ME). Considering I have been having contractions for several months now & I am getting to the "I'm miserable" point (I only had a couple weeks of the "this is great!") I have realized the NESTING has begun this week. With my Type A, OCD personality - me "nesting" will drive anyone crazy. This urge to prepare first stemmed from a reoccurance of that painful eye infection I had back in December, followed with some minor spotting & major contractions (every 5 minutes for several hours). Big Daddy, Trevor, & I got to hang out in L&D for several hours that day. NOT FUN! I'm not dialating & there are no infections so contracting is just what I do when I am pregnant - but the baby is already head down, VERY low lying, & there are times I feel like my water is going to break if he kicks me there one more time! lol

So what is the game plan?

As if this was my first go around, it really didn't hit me until the L&D day that I needed a plan. Did someone say "PLAN"? I get to "plan" something? I have realized that if I don't plan & prepare - I'm going to end up in a mess (just the way things go for me) & if I do get it together - he'll wait 'til next March to come . . .

THE PLAN:

Ok, Momma D. sadly jumped off the "stay-at-home mom bandwagon" & got a job. Anyway, Poppa C is around (*VERY scary thing if Big Daddy is NOT at work - these 2 think they can handle things. ie: delivering the baby at home! --> NOT HAPPENING!!) so if I go into labor & Big Daddy is at work - he will take me to him (about 45 minutes away/half way to the hospital I will deliver at). Big Daddy & I will head to the hospital & I will have a baby about an hour or 2 later. The kids have asked to be in the delivery room this time, so Momma D. will gather my Outlaws, give baths, & meet us at the hospital (hopefully they will make it in time, but with her driving, I have little concern about this). Momma D. will stay with us & help with the kids in the delivery room or "exit" if necessary. Big Daddy is useless in the delivery room - truly, honestly, self-admitted - USELESS! However, I do have a wonderful friend, Michelle, who is a nurse & was my doc's office manager for several years until she switched to a different practice about the time I got pregnant (I MISS YOU!!). Anyway, she was my "coach" with Trevor & was awesome - totally awesome, so she will/should/is planning on being there to pamper me for a few hours. I am going to have a room full!

That's the "Plan"

A lot of people have asked about my mom - Is she coming?
My momma has been here for all my babies (well, she missed Trevor by about 30 minutes b/c my dad stopped at every Target or Walmart b/t Tennessee & Texas on their way here). She says she isn't coming this time, but she said that with Trevor & changed her mind at the last minute. Mom coming isn't in "the plan" but it sure would be a lovely surprise if she does come. HINT HINT!

Back at it . . .

We had a FULL day of school (PK & 2nd) in our school room! During the winter it is too cold to school upstairs, so we move school downstairs (all over the house). Now that spring is here we are ready to have a school room again. This weekend I cleaned out the school room & did some rearranging. My grandparents brought us a kids folding table so we set it up in the school room & the boys love it! It was wonderful having school in our school room!

It feels so good to be back on a routine (not quite a schedule - I threw that out the window with morning sickness! lol). I love the advantage of being able to be flexible with homeschooling, but it does grow to be a habit & can make a "To Do" list grow very quickly. My kids & home were a priority ALL day today. Here are some of the things we got done today:

This is J week for the Mustangs so we had a JOYFUL day full of J activities:

We sorted Jellybeans & did some taste testing of all the different colors/flavors at snack time.

For our nature study we read about Jellyfish, then we made paper plate jellyfish for a craft (paper plates, tissue paper, paint, tape, stapler).

The Mustangs had several guided centers today: Puzzles, lacing, using measuring cups & rice (yes, this mess was approved!), & patterns.

After lunch I put Nemo on for the Mustangs & told them to look for jellyfish. While they watched their movie I did my schooling with Momma's Boy - Reading, TOG, Language, & Art. *I try very hard to have a quiet time for the Mustangs to give me some one-on-one time with Momma's Boy. Today Tucker interrupted once & I calmly(seriously!) told him he could watch his movie or lay in his bed for a nap. -- He choose the movie.

We had a great day! I even changed the sheets, did a couple loads of laundry, kept the house clean all day & had dinner ready at a decent time. YAY!

I hope we accomplish just as much today with the same JOYFUL attitude we all had yesterday. We are back at it . . .

My Granny

My Granny & Paw Paw came over for a quick visit Sunday. It made my day! I've never blogged about these 2, but they are very special & dear to my heart. I love them so much & have wonderful childhood memories with them. It melted my heart when Trevor brought my Granny a book for her to read to him. He plopped right next to her on the bed & listened to her read him a story with such interest. Listening to her read my baby a story & the look on his face as she read, is a memory I will cherish forever. It was absolutely precious.

Thank you Granny, I love you!

Guess What?

Drum-Roll please . . .

I FINALLY HAVE RUNNING WATER IN MY KITCHEN!!

Here is what the rest of the kitchen is looking like these days:

This spot was perfect for hanging all Big Daddy's Nanny's iron pans.
We still need to do the trim around the doorway.

This is what the cabinets will all look like once they are completed:

The work in the kitchen has slowed down a little now that the weather is pretty. Big Daddy has been working very hard getting ready to plant our garden. I find myself just sitting in my kitchen starring at everything. I am overwhelmed with how great it is. I used to be so embarrassed of this room in our house & now it is the first room I want to show visitors. I just love my kitchen!

Spring Break

We have been on Spring Break this week . . .

Monday
Big Daddy was off work & took his "Big Girl" with him to a local nursery to get plants for our garden. *She bought me a flower all on her own! :) Big Daddy has been preparing for our garden (the man is going to work me like never before - I am afraid!)
That afternoon I took Daddy's girl out for a much needed girls day. We had a wonderful time. We went to lunch, a few shops & got our eyebrows waxed together. -- This was a first for Taylor, but her "uni-brow" has really been bothering her. I just had the lady do the middle & clean that area up. I didn't let her touch the top or bottom. They look great & Taylor is so happy about her 2 eye brows now. She was so cute getting them done.

Tuesday
We went to a small local zoo for $1 each! Then we had a picnic at he park & played with several of our friends for a few hours. I was exhausted & the kids were worn plum out! It was a great day.

Wednesday
My "Fairy Cook-Mother" & her children all came over to play & check out the progress in my kitchen. It was a beautiful day so we just sat outside, chatted & watched our kids run around the farm. There is something special about girlfriends watching their kids play together. I love the noise of kids playing & I love that I am blessed to have wonderful friends with awesome kids.

Thursday
I loaded my Outlaws up & headed to town. We hit the recycled book store (BTW, I found some GREAT books for GREAT prices!), ran a few errands, & then met daddy for lunch - Chinese - YUMM! It is always fun for the kids to have lunch with daddy while he is all dressed up in his police uniform - it makes them feel important. We made it home in time for Tucker to have his first T-ball practice. He was so excited & is taking this very seriously.

Friday
Garage Sale! I helped a friend with her garage sale & then took the boys out to lunch for burgers with the 3 B's & Momma D. Big Daddy was off so he put us to work in our garden (pix coming soon!). MY BABY CAME HOME!! Tyler has been in New Mexico with his grandparents (he called me every day!). I have missed him so much & have such a greater appreciation for him - as I have been doing all his chores the past week. What a hard little worker I have. I missed him so much & he really missed me too! That evening we grilled & had a great time with the 3 B's & family. The kids played & played & played! A couple of my friends came over & we played Scatagories - sooo much fun but I lost! Don't you think "hay" should count as something that grows? lol

I love Spring! I love the warmer weather, the leaves blooming, the flowers budding, the sound of new baby farm animals running around . . . I just love this time of the year!

ABC MUST HAVE!!

Alphabet by Matthew Van Fleet is a must have for your alphabet book collection. I came across this book by chance yesterday while waiting on a RX from Sams & it is now my favorite alphabet book! There are so many great things about this book that I don't know where to start . . .

First this is a beautifully illustrated, hard cover, touch & feel book with pop-ups & pull-outs throughout. Each letter has 3 creatures & 1 plant that begin with the letter (one creature is large, the other 2 are small - making it a great searching game). At the back of the book you will find a "Safari Sightings!" page that shows smaller pictures of all of these for each letter. For example, A - search the A page for an ant, aardvark, & acorn. We had soooo much fun reading this book, playing with all the fun pull-outs & touching every page! The safari hunt was a blast! To make you fall in love with this book all the more, you will find a spectacular pop-up alphabet poster. Adding to my excitement of this book is a FREE Alphabet Event Kit. This book could become a core alphabet book to expand upon for a preschool or alphabet program. We absolutely LOVE it!!

This picture is from Barnes & Noble.com - this site has very detailed pictures of the book.

Have a New Kid by Friday

My Momma sent me this book after listening to me poor my heart out over the changes I have been experiencing with Daddy's Girl(As she giggles at the pay back I am enduring). This book is a quick read that I highly recommend to all parents. I mentioned last week that I have realized the Lord is working in me, just as much as Taylor, through our struggles. I expected to read this for ideas on how to change Taylor, but after reading it I discovered several changes I need to make of my own -- Isn't it nice how the Lord works? Dr. Kevin Leman is the author of Have a New Kid by Friday & does an excellent job of reminding us parents what our job is all about.

Over the next few days I will be sharing my Monday through Friday challenges as I put into action my new attitude & behavior as a Momma.

Preschool

One of my readers forwarded me THIS link to a snippet of ABC 20/20 News reporting on Universal Preschool.

What do I think about Universal Preschool?

I have yet to blog on politics or controversial topics; however, I will comment on this issue. First, let me begin by explaining our "preschool."
I put a lot of time & energy into "preschooling" my Mustangs. I do not do this because I feel like they will not be educated adults or honor roll students later in life if I don't start early.

Our preschool exists because:

1. I love the preschool age! I would not trade this time with my Mustangs for anything in the world.

Having a large family can be challenging for a mom to spread her time & energy evenly among all her children (& still have some left over at the end of the day for her husband). I loved PK with Momma's Boy. It was this age & experienced that opened my heart to homeschooling. When my Mustangs got to the PK age I made the commitment to myself to not allow demands of homeschooling the big kids to interfere with having this same treasured experience with the Mustangs. I need that time with them & they need it with me.

2. I believe in making my home, Mustangs environment, a place to build on the natural opportunities that arise when in an age-appropriate atmosphere with toys & activities that will encourage natural learning.

I have made the choice to purchase & fill my home with toys that will encourage my mustangs to learn naturally - using their imaginations (*I had an Indian in my living room today that was shooting arrows at the mustangs & yesterday Trevor saw a dinosaur in the Starbucks drive thru - I listened to 20 minute imaginative stories on both!). I don't do the latest superhero or newest gimmick when buying toys. I am very careful in the toys I allow into their environment. I have made the choice to encourage learning through their play & build on that with fun learning activities. I am rather organized & prefer to be prepared in my activities with my children; however, this is my personality - Not what I think (home)school has to be. The best description for this I read on Milestones Academy, "My child's play is their work."

3. They needed guided activities to keep them busy while I worked with my older kids. They HAD to have something to keep them busy so they didn't destroy my house during our school day!

Alternatives: television, video games (did you know 3 year olds can play these?), day-care, duck-tape (just kidding)

So, what do I think about Public Universal Preschool?

I want to be clear that I do believe there are children that would benefit from this program; However, I don't think it is necessary or the tax-payers responsibility. I think with the state our economy is in we have much bigger issues that starting a "Universal Preschool" - Our government should fix what is already broken rather than add to the pile. Public school students are not going to "test" better on the standardized tests used to evaluate our educational system because they did or did not attend a preschool program. I seriously doubt it is going to be a deciding factor if a senior in high school graduates or moves on to college. Adding preschool to the mix is not going to solve the problems that currently exist. Where did the Picasso's & Einstein's go? They have gradually been weeded out of our nation when children were placed in a box & their intelligence was measured solely on test scores. The problem is not with the teachers - I have several friends that are public school teachers & they are excellent teachers. They aren't allowed to teach by interest or with creativity b/c our government placed them in same box as the students. Teachers are forced to educate our children on how to test rather than how to learn. Is preschool really going to change those issues? Nope, it just takes the focus off of one issue & places it on another. Instead of measuring a child's education & a teachers ability based on test scores, why doesn't our government spend some time within the school to see where the problem truly lies?

I feel even stronger about there being a mandatory law stating every child should have preschool. Our rights as parents (& children) are slowly being ripped away from us. If you read my feeling on our preschool at home, you will notice that we have preschool because I made that decision & it works for my family. It is a choice. I cannot imagine my barely 4 year old Mustang being ready to leave my stable for an entire day x 5. The devastation & transition of that experience would have been far more traumatic than him not learning his ABC & having circle time.

I could go on & on . . . In short, I think the Universal Preschool is ridiculous. I think our children are being forced to grow up way too quickly as it is & it is important to let kids be kids - rushing an early education is only making them grow-up even quicker.

So, what is your opinion on Universal Preschool?

Calendar Journal

Remember MyBook? I use a "planner/journal" to scrap & keep important notes on things my Outlaws do throughout the year. I'm running a little behind on my scrapping part, but here is the layouts I made for January. I accidently made the first ones in landscape & it didn't work out right so I made it into a portrait layout too. Oops!

ID Theft

Yesterday I received an odd phone call from a woman stating she was calling regarding our federal taxes on behalf of "Rapid Refund." At the time she called I was getting the Mustangs settled down & started on puzzles, trying to go over longitude & latitude with Momma's Boy, & listening to Big Daddy install the sink (btw - it is "in"; however, it is NOT "working" yet). To say the least it was bad timing & I really should not have answered the phone. The number on our caller id showed up as "Toll Free = 866-499-1271." I answered it thinking I would hang up with a dead line on the other end & that would get rid of one more noise in the house. Once I answered the woman asked for my husband, using his first & last name. I informed her I was his wife & could help her (he was installing my sink & I was trying to avoid any distractions from that!). She told me it was about our taxes & I would need to verify his social security number. This was alarming to me, but all the commotion in the house threw me off. I asked her if she could verify who she was & she said, "There is a problem with one of your dependents social security numbers." I asked where she was calling from & she said, "Rapid Refunds." I assumed this was a company contracted out with the company we used for filing our taxes online. So, I asked her to verify the number she had for him & she did, but was one number off. I corrected her & that was the end of our phone call. Once I hung up, I had a horrible feeling so I immediately called the company we used to verify this phone call. I was then informed that the phone call I received was a fraud. So, what do you do when your ID as been compromised? What do you do when it involves your tax return? YIKES!!

1. Call your local police department & file a report. *You will need several copies of the report asap.

2. If it involves your taxes call the IRS Fraud Hotline 1-800-908-4490 & inform them of your situation.
To put an alter/flag on your taxes you will need to download Form 14026:
http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f14026.pdf

3. ID Theft Hotline:
FTC 1-877-438-4338
http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/microsites/idtheft/
http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/idtheft/idt04.shtm

4.Contact a credit bureau
Equifax is the one I used:
http://www.equifax.com/home/
1-888-766-0080

5. Call your credit cards & banks
*Have account numbers ready
- You will need to order new cards & go to the bank to close & open new accounts.

This has been a horrible process & very scarry, but the majority of the people I have delt with have been very helpful. I feel so stupid for giving the information our & we are completely lost as to how someone gained the initial information they had to begin with. It is sad that our world has come to this.

Fun Ideas for lot's of kids

Last Sunday was absolutely beautiful. Momma D & Poppa C brought their 3 B's over & we had a blast with the kids while the men slaved away in my kitchen. The kids just love doing scavenger hunts around our farm & obstacle courses (& we love torturing, I mean planning them out for them).
First we had a scavenger hunt with some of the following items on the list:
something orange
blue ball
chicken feather
chicken egg (*I would like to suggest being specific - NOT BROKEN! don't ask)
clothes-pin
& a few other things . . .

Our obstacle course was hilarious & totally exhausting (our kids will sleep well tonight!) This is what our course consisted of:
Pulling your partner down & back up the dirt road
Drinking a bottled water as a team
Eating 2 vitamins each
Making a tic-tac-toe game with Popsicles sticks
Dressing up in a cheerleader costume & performing a cheer (yes, our boys did this!)
10 Jumping Jacks
Walk across a wooden board
Climb the rope at the tree house, go down the slide, & swing
Lift a heavy rock above your head for 30 seconds
Pick up 10 pieces of trash
Hopscotch
Put together a puzzle
Give your mom & dad a hug & kiss
Say a memory verse
