Teaching writing is NOT one of my strong suites. I struggled with grading Daddy’s girl’s papers & was terrified of teaching Momma’s Boy. So I was very excited to hear others give advice on writing at our Curriculum Show & Tell.
Here are my notes:
*Vocabulary – when you are out in the world what is the first thing people notice? – your speech – your vocabulary! Not your spelling. Build colorful speech.
Suggested Curriculum: Wordly Wise
*Grammar – learn grammar to write.
- Analytical Grammar
- First Language Lessons (I absolutely LOVE this curriculum!!)
- Shurley Grammar
*Reading = creativity
Develop a passion for writing by:
- Creative writing first
- Limit corrections
- Encourage self-correcting
Copywork, Narration, Dictation are very important in developing a good writer.
